6.90

問：約四等釋法施，何以但取其實？釋六度明法施，何故雙釋？答：四等且據內懷，外所不知；六度攝物物情非一，故須雙起。復次四等實即攝權，內心隱密終不可知，故不具釋。

Question: In explaining the Dharma-gift based on the four immeasurables, why take only the real? Why, in explaining the six perfections to elucidate the Dharma-gift, are both [provisional and real] explained? Answer: The four immeasurables provisionally rely on the internal disposition, which is unknown to the outside; the six perfections gather beings, and the dispositions of beings are not uniform, so both must be raised. Furthermore, the real of the four immeasurables already gathers the provisional; the inner mind is hidden and ultimately cannot be known, and so is not explained completely.
