Question: Is the stone different from the attraction, or the attraction different from the stone? Answer: If the stone were different from the attraction, the stone would have no attraction; if the attraction were different from the stone, the attraction would exist outside the stone. Now it is not like this: neither identical nor different, it is the stone's attraction. Unconditioned kindness and compassion are the dharmakāya; the dharmakāya is unconditioned great compassion, serenely pure and attracting without thought. Just as a mirror originally has no images, yet following all conditions facing the mirror, images appear. Sentient beings' original nature is pure and without delusion or craving; the bodhisattva's dharmakāya originally has no illness. Because the illness of delusion and craving of sentient beings of the three lands arises, the bodhisattva's great compassion has the provisional illness of the three lands; therefore it says, "From delusion there is craving, and thus my illness arose."
