From "What is called... to expectation" is the fourth, asking about the mind of equanimity. First the question, next the answer. The meaning of the question is similar to the preceding. Second, as for Vimalakīrti's answer: if one contemplates sentient beings, entering emptiness and seeing the one true reality, their nature is like empty space; whether a Buddha exists or does not exist, the nature and characteristics permanently abide, and all possess the nature of peaceful bliss. Although one bestows bliss and uproots suffering, in truth there is no bliss to bestow and no suffering to uproot; what is there to celebrate? The Mahā[parinirvāṇa] Sūtra says: "constantly practicing equanimity"; relinquishing these three minds with no expectations is therefore named equanimity.
