"According to the purification of the buddha-land, the preaching of the Dharma is pure": if the Dharma is preached in a defiled land, it is like the elder holding a vessel for removing dung; here one responds to conditions by preaching painful and severe teachings. Just as Vimalakīrti preached to the bodhisattvas coming from the land of Sarvagandhasugandha the teachings of subduing belonging to this land, not preaching the pure teaching of the true reality of all dharmas. If the Dharma is preached in a pure land, one only preaches the pure Dharma-door of the true reality of all dharmas; this is called the purity of preaching the Dharma.
