"Born from benevolence, compassion, joy, and equanimity": The Tripiṭaka and shared teachings use the methods of cultivating the four truths of arising-and-ceasing and non-arising, taking the four immeasurables as object, to produce the great benevolence and compassion of the buddha-fruition dharmakāya. The distinct teaching uses the cultivation method of the immeasurable four truths, taking the objectless four immeasurables as object. The perfect teaching uses the four truths of non-action, exclusively cultivating the objectless four immeasurables; these together accomplish the objectless great benevolence and compassion of the buddha-fruition dharmakāya. If beginners cultivate and learn, they also proceed from wisdom-practice: wisdom-practice enters emptiness, takes sentient beings as object to cause them to attain joy and leave suffering, and rejoices while forgetting conceptual clinging—this is the cultivation of the four immeasurables, which can give birth to the great benevolence and compassion of the dharmakāya.
