From "At that time Vimalakīrti" down: third, directly narrating the event of being rebuked. The text has five parts: first, cross-examining interrogation; second, Aniruddha yielding in defeat; third, the Brahmā king's question; fourth, Vimalakīrti's answer; fifth, the Brahmā king and his retinue arousing the aspiration [for awakening]. The first part has two: first, double cross-examination; second, double interrogation. As for the first: an arhat's virtues are twofold: conditioned and unconditioned. Conditioned refers to the ten knowledges, three samādhis, three clear knowledges, and six supernatural powers; unconditioned refers to the unarising and unceasing where the delusions of view and thought of the three realms are severed. If the divine eye belongs to the conditioned, it is seeing 'with characteristics of activity'; if it belongs to the unconditioned, it is seeing 'without characteristics'. Precisely upon which does it rely to see the trichiliocosm?
