From "Therefore the bodhisattva should not give rise to bonds," fourth, concludes with an exhortation and explanation. Because the evidence is clear and verified by reality, sufficient to sever doubts and give rise to faith, it concludes with the exhortation saying, "should not give rise to bonds." From "What is called [bonds and liberation]" downward, second, differentiates the incorrect and reveals the correct regarding dhyāna. The text has two: 1. differentiating the incorrect; 2. revealing the correct. In the first text: "Craving and clinging to the taste of dhyāna is the bodhisattva's bond"—bonds are the incorrect. If one craves and clings to the contaminated, fundamental twelve gates of dhyāna, one will be born in [the realm of] common dwelling accordingly; if one craves and clings to the uncontaminated contemplation, cultivation, practice, and refinement, one will be born in [the realm of] remainder accordingly; if one craves and clings to the nine kinds of great dhyāna, the one hundred and eight samādhis such as the Śūraṅgama, one will be born in [the realm of] retribution accordingly: all cannot escape bonds.
