"The World-Honoured One solicitude-filled inquiries are boundless." Second, this explains Mañjuśrī's overall proclamation of the Buddha's intention in making the inquiry. As for "inquiries are boundless," since the real illnesses of the three lands in the dharma realms of the ten directions are already boundless, Vimalakīrti's compassionate regard makes the provisional illnesses boundless; therefore, he causes the Tathāgata to make boundless inquiries. Merely stating three sentences is to indicate the beginning of the inquiry. Perhaps there were many sentences, which the translator simplified, or the compiler of the sūtra did not bring out. For instance, the five hundred and eight thousand all had praises and statements, but these were abridged and not transmitted. Or it may be that merely proclaiming boundlessness in general is sufficient to express the Buddha's intent, and so he did not state more.
