Question: How is the meaning of the five entrenchments explained when the Separate [Teaching] connects with the Common [Teaching]? Answer: If one says that the four entrenchments are the view and thought [defilements] within the realm, ignorance can be beyond the realm, flowing from beyond the realm into within the realm. Now reversing this to emerge: first severing the view of individuality, next eliminating desire and greed and so forth, and afterwards severing ignorance to return to the basis of the non-abiding—this is the purport of the Separate connecting with the Common.
