From "manifesting entry" to "sentient beings," fifth, this explains practicing the non-path of the two vehicles to reach the Buddha Path. Because the two vehicles sink into emptiness, they have the non-path of the three paths—the twelve links of conditioned arising accumulated through unconditioned conditioning. By taking on the experience of the two vehicles' sinking into emptiness through non-reception, the bodhisattva is able to reach the Buddha Path from the non-path, manifesting as a śrāvaka to preach the unheard Dharma for sentient beings. Like Śāriputra and Subhūti, or if appearing as a pratyekabuddha, preaching through great compassion like Mahākāśyapa, without having fully perfected the Buddha-Dharma, they ultimately do not extinguish the experiences of the two vehicles, thereby reaching the Buddha Path. Therefore the Lotus Sūtra says: "Knowing that the multitude delight in lesser dharmas / and are afraid of great wisdom, / for this reason the bodhisattvas / appear as śrāvakas and pratyekabuddhas; / having few desires, they weary of birth-and-death, / yet in truth they purify their own buddha-lands."
