1.23

祖，法也。《文選》曰「祖搆之土」，注云「祖，法也。」其人，指荊溪也。《易》曰「神而明之，存乎其人。」

"To take as ancestor" (*zu*) means to model upon. The *Wenxuan* says: "The land built by the ancestors (*zugou*)," and its commentary says: "*Zu* means to model upon." "The person" refers to Jingxi. The *Yijing* says: "To make it spiritual and illuminate it depends upon the person."
