The Buddha, possessing ultimate virtue, dwells in the position of fruition; sentient beings ought to behold him, hence it says "appears advantageously." The *Yijing* says: "The flying dragon is in the heavens; it is advantageous to see the great man." "Could not but be varied": since he responds to the capacities of beings, there is the distinction of the five periods and the four teachings. "The worthy and wise" refers to Zhizhe. "Establish sincerity through resonance" means that through his capacity resonating with Jingming's teaching, he composed the words of the commentary to expand its purport. The *Yijing* says: "Cultivating words to establish one's sincerity is how one secures one's legacy." "Could not but be transmitted" means that to benefit later generations, the commentary's meanings could not but be passed on. *Zhe* means wise.
