Third, from "if it might assist" below, explaining his modesty and stating his intention. The first two phrases state his intention. If this abridged commentary can assist the Great Master's core tenets, it will make it clear and easy to understand for later scholars, without the defect of prolixity and obscurity. The Wenxuan states: "Radiant are the war carriages; shining is the king's pathway." "Guang" means brightness. Its commentary says: "Guangguang means a martial appearance," which is mistaken; only because seeing the Erya state "Guangguang and jiujiu mean martial" did it produce this erroneous explanation. As for "posterity" (houkun), the "Announcement of Zhonghui" in the Shangshu says: "Leaving abundant blessings to posterity," and Kong Anguo's Commentary says: "Bequeathing the way of abundant benevolence to show to future generations." From "I hope that" below, this is modesty. "Ji" means to hope. As for "forgiveness" (shu), the Shenglei says: "Measuring things with one's mind is called forgiveness."
