Second, "Now opening..." below, specifically dividing the sections according to the present text, which has two parts: first, properly dividing into three sections; second, "Question: ..." below, resolving objections according to the name. The question's intent: because earlier it was said that the eleven chapters all clarify the causes and fruitions of the Buddha land as the main preaching. The answer's intent: only through the Buddha's seal of confirmation is it established as a sūtra. Although the title mentions Vimalakīrti, the meaning belongs to the Buddha land as the main preaching, which wonderfully grasps the sūtra's purport. The answer contains doctrine, metaphor, and application. Regarding "issuing administration": Huang Kan says, "Administration means legal regulations." Zheng Xuan's commentary on the *Rites of Zhou* states, "Administration is that which rectifies what is not correct." Regarding "and the minister receives the reward": the *Book of Documents* says, "When virtue is abundant, encourage it with office; when merit is abundant, encourage it with reward." The commentary says, "Mao means to encourage. For those who strive in virtue, encourage them with office; for those who strive in merit, encourage them with reward." Regarding "Jingming... only then becomes the main": Jingxi says, "Dharma can be sealed and confirmed as a genuine sūtra; how could a person be sealed and confirmed as the teaching master?" Regarding "Second, in terms of contemplating the mind": not contemplating one's own mind is like a pauper counting treasures. The liberation of the Buddhas is sought within the mind's actions; hence one relies on doctrinal marks to accomplish subtle contemplation. In the text it provisionally draws upon the graduated threefold contemplation to explain the three divisions; although the preaching is graduated, the intent converges in the one mind. Regarding "mind after mind being extinguished in quiescence": Jingxi says, "Approximating it from the name, its meaning corresponds to the transmission; the contemplation gates are also like this; hence this explanation is made."
