Twenty-eight: Moon Above. There are two parts: first, explaining the name. "The moon is round and full" and so forth refers to the Avataṃsaka Sūtra: "Just as the pure full moon universally appears in all waters, though its forms and reflections are measureless, the original moon has never been two." Second, explaining the gate. "Apparent and concealed" also means bright and dark. The sūtra says: "Like entering the concentration of the cessation of sensation and conceptualization": this uses a lesser concentration as an analogy to reveal it. Because wisdom illuminates cessation, there is no brightness; because fetters and delusions are exhausted, there is no darkness.
