"Second, from 'Dharma-joy' downwards, briefly explaining the various phrases. As for 'kindness and compassion correspond to each other', and so forth: fu (correspond) means to harmonize. Therefore Jingxi says: 'The female nature is gentle and compliant and does not quarrel with things, just as kindness and compassion are easily gathered together.' Those which have the characters fuchim ('support') are reckless alterations by later people. As for 'whether apparent or real': Jingxi says: 'apparent refers to the worthy, real refers to the noble.' As for 'the Dharma gate of the other shore': pāramitā is translated here as 'arriving at the other shore'. As for 'two wheels': this refers to merit and wisdom; the two adornments are equal, just like companions. Deng (equal) means matched or of the same kind. The Book of Han says: 'They are all peers of Your Majesty.' As for 'female entertainers': female musicians are called ji. As for 'pleasing the mind': lü (reflection) means mind."
