Second, under "Just as Śāriputra," citing the Lesser Vehicle being empowered [by the Buddha] to reveal that non-duality is called exiting. According to this passage, one knows that the previous part should have stated as a premise that not only is duality called exiting, but non-duality is also called exiting. Because the contrast makes it easy to understand, the previous part was simply concise. "This also enters non-duality from duality": that which is realized by the Lesser Vehicle is the conventional truth beyond the realm; hence it is called duality. Because they are empowered, they expound unshared prajñā, which is the ultimate truth beyond the realm; this is called entering non-duality. Under "Merely knowing": above, he temporarily granted it to them, regarding being empowered as entering. Since they did not yearn for or grasp it at all, he here revokes it; hence he says it is not a true awakening and entry. Under "If he recognized and understood": since being empowered is not a true awakening and entry, he therefore emerges to realize the small fruit; hence it says "returning out to the grass hut." The grass hut is the ultimate truth within the realm, called non-duality. Since he emerges to abide in the small fruit, is non-duality not called exiting? Under "At that time," he concludes and shows it. Now, these two rounds clarify that the meanings of exiting and entering are interchangeable. If one wishes to understand easily, one should say: viewing the two truths beyond the realm from the perspective of the two truths within the realm, both require breaking through what is within to enter what is beyond; hence the conventional truth beyond the realm also obtains the name of entering—that is, duality is also called entering. This is the meaning of the first round. If one emerges from being empowered to realize the small fruit, that is emerging from the conventional beyond the fruit to the ultimate within the realm—that is, non-duality is also called exiting. Second, under "Now speaking," discriminating and revealing: namely, entering the ultimate truth beyond the realm from the conventional truth beyond the realm; hence it says entering non-duality. One should know that the two truths within the realm are already subsumed under the conventional truth beyond the realm.
