Second, from "Must not" downward admonishes against evil and encourages faith. The first part admonishes against evil. If one equates oneself with the Buddha, one destroys correct understanding, which is called a bodhisattva caṇḍāla. From "If not" downward encourages faith. If one does not accept that the contemplating mind is identical to Buddha, this is failing to believe the definitive sūtras, because in all definitive sūtras it is said that afflictions are identical to bodhi, and this very life is Buddha, and so on. Therefore this text adduces the six meanings to admonish against evil so that there is no overweening pride. It adduces the meaning of identity to encourage faith, so that one avoids self-deprecation.
