Third, regarding contemplation of the mind. As for "ten kinds of gardens," [Dao]xian says: "The thirty-second [fascicle] of the old sūtra states: 'Buddha-sons! Bodhisattva-mahāsattvas have ten kinds of gardens and groves. What are the ten? They are the garden and grove of birth-and-death, because in practicing the bodhisattva practice they do not give rise to worry and affliction. The garden and grove of teaching and transforming sentient beings, because they do not tire of sentient beings. …' Up to its stating: 'The garden and grove of all sentient beings presently realizing true awakening in thought after thought, because the dharmakāya, like space, fills all worlds with equal awakening.'" As for "contemplating the inconceivable, difficult-to-distinguish principle," "contemplating" is the threefold contemplation, and "principle" is the three truths. Being neither one nor three is called difficult to distinguish, fully as stated in the text on contemplating the sphere of the aggregates in fascicle five of *Cessation and Contemplation*.
