Seventh, explaining that the Dharma is without a self. Eighth, explaining that the Dharma is without differentiation. Regarding "not the sixth, seventh, or eighth consciousnesses": Consciousness is defined as differentiation, hence it is said that all are absent. Saying "the sixth consciousness" subsumes the preceding five, mentioning "the sixth" to encompass them all. It is not merely the sixth; all consciousnesses are equally false, hence they are not the true principle. As the sūtra later says, "not relying on the six sense-dusts," how could it be only the sixth?
