四、淨名安慰，二：初、敘意分科。二、隨文釋義，三：初、慰問。荊溪云：即是法身等者，即是法身如來所作化事。作此釋者但是從理，亦應更須從事以釋。假使如來化為一人，還自以此而詰難之，所化之人豈有懼色？詰者，責也問也。

Fourth, Jingming comforts him, with two parts: first, stating the idea and dividing the section; second, explaining the meaning following the text, in three parts: first, the consoling inquiry. Jingxi says: "That is the dharmakāya, etc." means that these were transformative actions performed by the dharmakāya Tathāgata. Making this explanation is solely from the perspective of principle; one must also explain it from the perspective of phenomena. Even if the Tathāgata had transformed into a person and in turn used this to cross-examine him, how could the transformed person have a frightened look? "Cross-examine" (ji) means to reproach and question.
