Second, the answer, which has two parts: first, properly answering to reveal identity. Jingxi states: The intention in the answer is: the three lands are precisely it, so why seek separately? If so, the three are still ubiquitously present; how could the pervasive openness outside the three not be present? If so, is this existence of pervasive openness the same as or different from empty space? Answer: If it were the same as empty space, how could it pervade the three lands? If it were different from empty space, how could it permeate the three? Spiritual awareness within and without pervades and yet does not pervade; examined through the four propositions, the common teaching reveals true reality.
