Second, from "Now regarding" downward, opening the sections for detailed explanation, which has two parts: first, the real illness, in two parts: first, marking, indicating, and dividing the sections; second, directly explaining according to the sections, in four parts: first, distinguishing the marks of cause-and-effect illness. As for "debilitation and obstruction" (*zhai'ai*), *zhai* is pronounced *ce* and *jie* in fanqie; it means illness. As for "same box, different natures," the physical body is like a box, and the four great elements are like snakes. The *Golden Light* states: "The two snakes, earth and water, have natures that sink downward; the two snakes, wind and fire, have natures that are light and rise upward." As for "mutually arising in increase and decrease," water increasing and fire decreasing results in cold illnesses and the like; the rest of the great elements are explained by analogy.
