問：前作離義，應是別教。答：別教一向明離，故事理大異。前明即離並在於圓，既事理一如，故即離不二。

Question: The earlier formulation of the meaning of separation should belong to the separate teaching. Answer: The separate teaching solely clarifies separation, so phenomena and principle are vastly different. The earlier clarification of both identity and separation is entirely within the perfect [teaching]; since phenomena and principle are unified as one, identity and separation are non-dual.
