二、約斷德。「清涼之池」者，涼池喻，出《大經》。「不與界內外至合故」者，以煩惱生死即菩提涅槃，故即事是理無事可合，如即波是水無波合水。「內外八風」者，荊溪云：外無八相，秖有違順真中不同，故與內別。

Second, in terms of severance-virtue. Regarding "the pond of refreshing coolness": the simile of the cool pond comes from the Great Sūtra. Regarding "Not joining with the inner and outer realms up to": because afflictions and saṃsāra are themselves bodhi and nirvāṇa, phenomena are identical to principle and there are no phenomena to join with—just as waves are themselves water, with no waves joining with water. Regarding "the inner and outer eight winds": Jingxi says, "On the outside there are not eight characteristics; there are only differences of adverse and agreeable, true and middle, and so it differs from the inner."
