Third, clarifying the intention of the sequence of teaching and contemplation with respect to explaining the title. As for "suspended explanation," explaining beforehand detached from the text is called suspended explanation, which refers to the Profound Meaning earlier. Furthermore, the character *xuan* [suspended] in *xuan shi* can also be written as *xuan* [profound]; *xuan* means comprehensive: explaining comprehensively apart from the text, not explaining separately following the text. The *Wen Xuan* says: "Wise and sagely, he comprehends profoundly," and the commentary states: "*Xuan* means comprehensive." Therefore, the two characters *xuan* [profound] and *xuan* [suspended] can be used interchangeably without objection.
