Second, contemplation explanation. In the text, emptiness and the provisional are contrasted to clarify the contemplative method of the shared teaching; the middle and the provisional are contrasted to clarify the contemplative method of the distinct and perfect teachings. The provisional of the six destinies is identical to mere emptiness; hence it is called provisional-emptiness. Mere emptiness is identical to the provisional of the six destinies; hence it is called empty-provisional. This is within the realms and is called the minor nirvāṇa. The two extremes being identical to the middle way is called provisional-middle; the middle way being identical to the two extremes is called middle-provisional. Clarifying the meaning with the two truths, the conventional truth contains the true; hence the two extremes are called provisional. The sūtra's intent lies in the Great Vehicle; therefore, this contemplative method temporarily clarifies the three teachings; provisional-emptiness and empty-provisional can also encompass the Tripiṭaka teaching.
