Third, entering nirvāṇa. However, among these three passages, there is a slight difference in their treatment. Attaining the path and entering extinction are both explained in terms of the four capacities simultaneously seeing differently, while turning the Dharma [wheel] in the middle is elucidated in terms of the increase and decrease of the five periods. Simultaneous diverse perception reflects the meaning of mutual interpenetration, while the increase and decrease of the five periods reflects the meaning of sequential progression; one should know that both are comprehensive and both are sequential, only that the texts manifest them alternatively.
