Question: If so, are these ten virtues the same as the ten titles [of a Buddha]? Answer: Their names differ, but their meanings harmonize. Why? Proceeding from the path of true reality, his lineage is therefore called noble; because he is worthy of offerings, his rank is high; because of his universal knowledge, how could he not possess abundant wealth? Since he possesses both superknowledges and clarities, that is his majestic power; because he skillfully accords with the secret treasury, this is due to his profound wisdom; understanding the three worlds must depend upon venerable age; being the foremost among persons is due to the purity of his three karmas; yielding and subduing great persons concerns the completeness of propriety; and being a teacher of gods and humans, all Buddhas then praise him. As an elder of the world, he serves as the refuge for those below; therefore this single title also intrinsically possesses the nine virtues.
