Second, from "Furthermore" downward, concluding by showing the perfect and separate mutually completing each other, in two parts: first, directly showing, in two parts: first, directly showing mutual dependence. As for "For example, without the sun" and so forth, Jingxi says: merely explaining in accord with principle corresponds to the horizontal; explaining in reference to the text corresponds to the vertical; in truth, the perfect explanation corresponds to neither the horizontal nor the vertical. Even the perfect and separate as teachings still form the horizontal and vertical mutually benefiting each other, how much more so taking teaching and contemplation as horizontal and vertical, merely mutually assisting each other within the horizontal and vertical! Therefore, matching the horizontal and so forth with the three virtues: not vertical yet vertical is the virtue of prajñā; not horizontal yet horizontal is the virtue of liberation; this very principle of being doubly non-horizontal and non-vertical is the virtue of the dharmakāya. Therefore it says "without the sun there is no way" and so forth. The sun is like horizontal movement, the moon is like the initial dwelling, and the year and so forth are like the forty-two positions.
