Question: With space as the seat, what body sits on it? Answer: With a body like space one sits on a seat like space. The body and seat correspond to each other, and the active and the passive blend together; this is the dharmakāya of quiescent illumination, wherein circumstantial and direct [rewards] are non-dual. Merely because [the cause] inherently contains the principle, only upon reaching the fruit is it so; hence, one at the initial mind also sits upon the empty seat. Therefore the Lotus Sūtra says: "The seat of the Tathāgata is the emptiness of all dharmas." This is the empty seat of contemplation practice. Here, clarifying the completion of the realm, it is the ultimate empty seat. One should distinguish the differences in seats in terms of the six identities.
