From beginning to end, this sūtra speaks extensively of the pure land, and the thematic momentum across the two places and four assemblies is interconnected. Although it has already been explained in detail in the Fahua xuanlun, what remains unexhausted will now be briefly presented. According to the Sanskrit text, the beginning was still the introductory chapter; the translators changed it to 'Buddha Land'. Within 'Buddha Land' there are three sections of text: the first says, 'The categories of sentient beings are the bodhisattva's buddha land'; the next section says, 'The straight mind is the bodhisattva's buddha land.' Although these two sections belong to the text of a single chapter, they are the grand carriage that greatly illuminates the pure land. Many masters construct separate profundities without paying heed to the text, and therefore frequently lose the sūtra's purport.
