問：聲聞獨覺隨往眾多，何獨鶖子一人屢有詞理之屈？答：聲聞巨眾，鶖子獨高。舉首對揚，知餘並屈。

Question: Among the śrāvakas and pratyekabuddhas, many went along; why was Śāriputra alone repeatedly humiliated in debate and reasoning? Answer: Although the śrāvaka assembly was vast, Śāriputra stood out as the foremost. By singling out the leader in dialogue, one knows that all the rest were likewise humbled.
