Question: Looking at this place of transformation, it is truly an impure realm. Why did the Brahmā king say, 'I see this land has always been pure'? Answer: It is to make manifest the Buddha's compassion; the transformation is marked in an impure place, while in truth what the bodhisattvas see is only dwelling in a pure realm. Purity and impurity stem from two minds; roots, retribution, and transformation arise according to ordinary beings and sages. The transformed Buddha is not fixed, and the place can also be understood in this way. One cannot manifest both pure and impure simultaneously; only one place of transformation is marked. Analogizing the meaning to the three lands is also not contradictory. Since the Buddha's defined land is so, the principle can truly be understood.
