Commentary: This manifests the venerable supremacy. 'To sit upon' means to be seated. The Tathāgata rests upon the seat of fearlessness, which is called the lion seat. The seat takes the shape of a lion to manifest that the one who sits upon it has attained fearlessness. The seat is adorned with various gems—indranīla, mahānīla, aśmagarbha, vajragarbha, maṇi jewels, and so forth—and is called the 'supreme storehouse.' His inner body is golden, and outwardly he emits spiritual radiance, manifesting this burning and dazzling light of majesty and virtue, which eclipses all the great assemblies that had come, like the bright moon in autumn outshining the multitude of stars, or like the great thunder on a spring day drowning out all other sounds; this is all because inner virtue is transcendent and supreme, and hence the outer form is uniquely magnificent.
