Commentary: Below are seven developments clarifying that once the pure land is accomplished, further supreme fruits are generated. Within this there are two: the first development is the fruit of benefit that can transform; the subsequent six developments are the fruits of benefit that are transformed. This has two meanings: first, the meaning of turning the wheel of the Dharma. Since they sequentially generate one another, there is that land of sentient beings. Once it is adorned and purified, one is then able to transform others, and therefore there is teaching of the Dharma. Once the Dharma teachings are bestowed, they transform and generate wonderful merit, so that beings are born among gods and humans and experience superior blessings. Next, the three wonderful wisdoms of mundane hearing, thinking, and cultivating arise. Once the wonderful wisdoms have arisen, supramundane gnosis arises. Once supramundane gnosis has arisen, supramundane practice is born. Once supramundane practice has been born, the mind of the eight consciousnesses is entirely purified. Once the mind is purified, the fruit is attained completely, and there are no immeasurable wonderful virtues that are not possessed. Such is again called adorning and purifying the Buddha-land. Second, the meaning of what can be bestowed upon others. Once that land of sentient beings has been adorned and purified, one can then teach and transform them with the teachings of the ten stages (daśabhūmi). The purification of the land of sentient beings is the ten stages. Once the Dharma teachings are bestowed, there are supramundane blessings, experiencing various blessings such as the fruit of the ten kings. Next, non-conceptual wisdom arises; once non-conceptual wisdom has arisen, subsequent-attainment gnosis also arises; once subsequent-attainment gnosis has arisen, supramundane practice is born; once supramundane practice has been born, the mind of the eight consciousnesses is purified; once the mind of the eight consciousnesses is purified, ten thousand virtues are perfected, ultimately leading to attaining buddhahood. This vow, through adorning the causes of the pure land, brings about the birth of the fruit of the pure land; having brought about the birth of the fruit of the pure land, it generates these supreme fruits. In the older sūtra translation there are only four developments here, lacking the two varieties of wonderful merit and wonderful practice, and combining gnosis and wisdom into a single development.
