贊曰：下述理除疑。此文有三：初總告、次喻示、後結成。此初文也。若者如義。我心久淨，土淨如此，為愍劣生，隨現劣土，土本非我所嚴故，三乘眾生所宜見故。

Commentary: Below sets forth the principle to dispel the doubt. This passage has three parts: first, an overarching address; second, an illustration by simile; and finally, the conclusion. This is the first passage. "Like" (ruo) has the sense of "as". My mind has long been pure, and the land is pure like this; yet out of compassion for inferior beings, I display an inferior land accordingly. The land was originally not what I adorned [in that inferior way], but was shown in accordance with what beings of the three vehicles ought to see.
