Commentary: Below clarifies the lesser benefits. "Knowing impermanence" means that seeing the land transform accords with the principle of impermanence and opposes the truth of suffering. This text refers to the path of seeing (darśanamārga). "Far from defilement" refers to the uninterrupted path (ānantaryamārga), because obstructions are severed. "Free from impurity" refers to the path of liberation (vimuktimārga), because, being free from impurity, unconditioned reality is realized. Because dharma-knowledge is attained, it is called "purification of the Dharma-eye". "Permanently free from the outflows": the afflictive obstructions are exhausted, which is freedom from the bondage of the objective referent (ālambana-bandhana). "The mind was well liberated": freedom from the bondage of mental concomitants (saṃprayukta-bandhana). This explains the realization of the fruit of an Arhat. The old translation says "not grasping at any dharmas", which means not apprehending self or what belongs to self, and not receiving the fruit of saṃsāra. "Intentional liberation" (yijie) means liberation of the mind.
