Commentary: Taking empty space as a treasury and maintaining it to give to sentient beings is called 'Treasury of Space' (Gaganagañja). Holding the torch of wisdom-jewels in the mind to illuminate the foolish darkness of the multitude of beings is called 'Holding the Jewel Torch' (Ratnolkādhāra). Bestowing the Dharma-jewel upon sentient beings and performing auspicious deeds is called 'Jewel Auspiciousness' (Ratnamangala). The old name was 'Jeweled Valor' (Ratnasūra); giving jewels to beings captured only a fraction of the intended meaning, and it was entirely missing 'auspiciousness'. Constantly giving the seven jewels to sentient beings is called 'Bestower of Jewels' (Ratnadāna). The old name was 'Jewel View' (Ratnadarśana), whose rationale is difficult to establish.
