Commentary: Just as Śakra, Lord of the Gods, possesses an art of mastery in which he manifests all things within each single thing to net and ensnare sentient beings, so too the Bodhisattva uses supernatural powers to create illusions to net and benefit sentient beings; hence he is called 'Indra's Net' (Indrajāla). Emitting a great radiance, like the jewels of a net, is called 'Net of Radiance' (Jālinīprabha). The old translation said 'Net of Light' (Mingwang), because the divine light that is emitted is not termed merely 'light' (*ming*). Departing from all obstacles to meditative concentration and entering dhyāna, attaining great mastery, is called 'Dhyāna Free from Obstacles' (Anāvaraṇa-dhyāna). The old translation said 'Contemplation without Objects' (Wuyuanguan), contemplating that there is nothing conditioned, but that meaning is incorrect. Alternatively, 'without' means free from obstacles, and 'object-contemplation' means concentration; its meaning can be understood. Wisdom being loftily prominent is called 'Peak of Wisdom' (Matikūṭa). Formerly it was said 'Accumulation of Wisdom' (Matirāśi), which departs from the meaning. Next in the old sūtra was Ratnaviśiṣṭa Bodhisattva, but this text does not have him.
