Commentary: Being sovereign regarding the Dharma, like a divine king, is called 'Divine King' (Devarāja). Furthermore, all Bodhisattvas are called pure devas, and among them he is sovereign like a wheel-turning king. Gradually attaining the ten powers and being able to destroy the four Māras is called 'Destroyer of Māra' (Māradharṣaka). Pouring forth the Dharma-jewels, with brilliance like lightning, and sovereign like a deva, he is thus called 'Lightning Deva' (Vidyuddeva). The old name was 'Lightning Virtue' (Vidyudguṇa); virtue is merit. Being able to manifest miraculous transformations, sovereign like a king, is called 'King Who Manifests Miraculous Transformations' (Vikurvaṇarāja). The old translation said 'King of Mastery' (Vaśavartirāja), which is mastery over miraculous transformations. Being able to adorn oneself equally with merits, loftily prominent like the mark of a mountain peak, is called 'Equally Adorned with Peak-Marks' (Kūṭalakṣaṇa-samālaṃkāra). Formerly it was said 'Adorned with Marks of Merit'; 'mark' refers to the peak; the meaning is the same, but the name is brief.
