贊曰：下文有二，此初命也。梵云摩訶沒特伽羅，此云大採菽氏，菽者豆也。氏謂氏族。上古有仙常食綠豆，是彼苗裔，故名大採菽氏。此及舍利子、摩訶迦葉等所有因由，並如《彌勒上生經疏》上卷說。

Commentary: The text below has two parts; this is the first, the command. In Sanskrit, Mahā-Maudgalyāyana; here [in Chinese] it means ‘Great Bean-Gathering Clan’; shu means bean. ‘Clan’ refers to a lineage. In ancient times, there was an ascetic who always ate mung beans; [Maudgalyāyana] was his descendant, so he was named ‘Great Bean-Gathering Clan.’ All the causes and conditions concerning him, Śāriputra, Mahākāśyapa, and others are fully explained as in the first fascicle of the Commentary on the Maitreya-Upapatti-Sūtra.
