Commentary: According to the principle of emptiness: the conventional clings to phenomena as existent, not identical to the dharmadhātu; within ultimate truth, all things equally enter the true dharmadhātu, and thus, identical to the dharmadhātu, all are empty. The conventional has something it follows; not following tathatā, it follows existence; ultimate truth has nothing it follows; not following existence, it entirely follows tathatā and emptiness. According to the principle of the reasonable: the lower ten phrases explain the dependent nature as empty of conceptual clinging, and also integrate the dependent nature into tathatā. In dependent nature, phenomena are identical to the dharmadhātu; when characteristics are subsumed into the nature, they enter the dharmadhātu, not identical to the conceptually clung-to false existence. The ancients said: ‘because it enters the various dharmas.’ The dharma of the dharmadhātu indicates following tathatā, for there is nothing like what is conceptually clung to that could be followed.
