贊曰：下辭有三，此總陳道屈也。迦葉偏濟貧苦，不能等施慈悲；諸相猶存，不能事事無相。因斯被屈，故答不堪。

The Commentary states: Below, the declination has three parts; this is the general presentation of his defeat in the path. Kāśyapa exclusively aided the poor and destitute, unable to bestow loving-kindness and compassion equally; various marks still remained, unable to make every matter signless. Having been subdued because of this, he replied that he was not competent.
