The Commentary states: The second part of the text below specifically reveals the exhaustion of principle: first inquiring, then revealing. Within revealing there are also two parts: first presenting his own matter, second revealing the other's words. This is the inquiry and the presentation of his own matter. Wandering through poor and humble alleys to beg in sequence: because the poor and suffering did not cultivate, they were poor; fearing they would become even poorer in the future, he therefore exhorted them. Because the rich were not like this, he did not beg from them. The rich are mostly overflowing, so begging from them accommodates oneself with abundance; the poor have nothing, so begging from them goes against one's desires and yields meagerly. Originally intending to sustain the body and benefit others, not hoping to enrich himself with abundance, he therefore wandered through poor alleys; it was certainly with reason. Going in sequence to beg for food is therefore called 'cultivating.'
