贊曰：下辭有三，此總陳道屈。滿慈說法，利諸新學。說小非大，不識心機。既被昔訶，所以詞退。

Commentary: Below, the refusal has three parts; this generally states how his way was thwarted. Maitrāyaṇīputra preached the Dharma to benefit newly trained students. He preached the lesser rather than the great, failing to recognize their mental capacities. Since he was rebuked in the past, he now declines.
