贊曰：下顯理窮，初徵、後顯。顯中復二：初陳己事、後顯他詞。此徵及陳己事也。新學初機，由來智隔，故脫小法令漸隨之。

Commentary: Below, showing how his reasoning was exhausted: first investigating, and then explaining. The explanation also has two parts: first, stating his own matter, and later, showing the other's words. This is the inquiry and stating his own matter. The initial capacities of newly trained students were originally separated in wisdom, so he offered the lesser teaching to gradually lead them along.
