贊曰：此勸知意樂。意樂信解大乘法故。大乘意樂如瑠璃寶，小乘意樂如水精珠。今將大機謂是小器，故以瑠璃同水精也。前以小法投大心故，如以穢食置於寶器；今以大心同於小心，故以瑠璃同水精珠。舊言心念，即意樂也。

Commentary: This urges knowing their inclinations. Their inclination was to have faith and understanding in the Mahāyāna teachings. The Mahāyāna inclination is like a vaiḍūrya jewel; the Hīnayāna inclination is like a crystal bead. Now, taking those of great capacity to be lesser vessels is equating vaiḍūrya with crystal. Formerly, because he cast lesser teachings into great minds, it was like placing defiled food into a precious vessel; now, because he equated great minds with lesser minds, it is equating vaiḍūrya with crystal beads. In the old translation, 'mental thought' refers to inclination.
