贊曰：下顯詞由卑躬請退。於中有三：初彰智弱、次釋所由、後總結之。此初文也。一切聲聞不識根性，若不白佛不應說法，錯逗根機無利益故。

Commentary: Below, [the text] displays the reasons for his words as he bows low and begs to decline. In this there are three parts: first, making manifest the weakness of his wisdom; second, explaining the reason; third, summarizing it. This is the first text. All śrāvakas do not recognize faculties and dispositions; if they do not report to the Buddha, they should not expound the Dharma, because mistakenly addressing capacities brings no benefit.
