3.35

贊曰：此有二句，一明外寶重內、二處會為說首。佛之正法名為內苑，而於此法樂，常寶贊翫好。或真如理名為內苑，初地以上得法苑樂。故雖處鄉邑眾會之中，證達即深，說為上首。舊云「一切見敬為供養中最」者，由為說上首，所以一切見敬，皆供養之中為第一也。

Commentary: Here there are two phrases: first, being proficient in external [teachings] while cherishing and treasuring the internal; second, being foremost in expounding [the Dharma] when in gatherings. The true Dharma of the Buddha is called the "inner park," and he constantly treasured, praised, enjoyed, and loved the joy found in this Dharma. Alternatively, the principle of tathatā is called the "inner park," for from the first ground onward one attains the joy of the park of the Dharma. Therefore, although he was amidst assemblies in villages and towns, because his realization and penetration were deep, he was foremost in expounding [the Dharma]. The old [translation] says: "Being seen and respected by all is the greatest of offerings." Because he was foremost in expounding [the Dharma], his being seen and respected by all was the supreme among offerings.
